Happy New Year, to start the year off I thought I'd post the Elephant painting in Photoshop that I did as a demo in Taiwan last year,

I didn't have a scanner handy so I just phograhed the drawing to start this painting.

a fast way to use your brush and keep all its pattern,

This is the brush and the pattern on it that I would like to keep,

On a new layer I paint this (below) using the above setting,

Then I copy the layer until it is opaque keeping one layer on top and merging all the other layers,

Now if I lighten "layer 4" and darken " Layer 4 copy 25" I'll be on the way to very quickly getting something like the image below. have fun.

Yesterday I flew into Taipei to teach a workshop on storyboard clean-up. Woody covered the first week and I'll start monday. Friday I spent the day at the HWA HSIA Institute to meet the students and take a look at the work. In the late afternoon I joined them at their drawing class.

Large Kitchen Painting,

This is the painting that I posted a black&white image of last May 11 2011. The painting was a color study I did in my 2-3rd year of Collage for a Egg Tempera class I was taking. After doing a few studies of the kitchen in pencil and then preparing the gesso panel and then painting the under-painting in tone, I started with color and then lost interest in the egg tempera. I had what looked like a fairly good painting of the subject. I was young and was impatient and felt like I've taken this subject as far as I could. A few years later I built the frame taking the design from the front door of the house I was renting a room in. I had the painting in a few shows in Toronto but it didn't sell so I thought I would keep it. Now it feels like a time capsule from another time.

I did this drawing last Dec. and thought it might make a nice painting.I start by just painting over the drawing on a new layer.

I would make a copy of the line drawing and place it on top and paint on a new layer underneath.
I just grabbed a section of the painting and did a color shift to give it the sun light effect.

Hop just opened last night, so I can post this vis-dev photoshop painting I did for Universal Studios.

They called me last July and sent a render of the bunny character witch I had to redraw the body but ended up keeping the head with a slight paint-over. The shirt pattern was done in photoshop and the undulation was done using liquify. The painting was done just using photoshop with no photo texture dragged in. At the time I had no idea what it was to be used for until I saw the "Hop" trailer!

This is a quick way to do a painting in photoshop. I started with a ball point pen on paper. Then I scan the drawings and move to photoshop. The idea was to start with just a few drawings and make the most of it. The 1st castle I assembled, and put the layers in a folder, copied it, flipped and pasted it behind the 1st copy, distorted and shifted the color, value. All the trees are just one photoshop brush I made.

At this point Paul Felix took a look and did his take on the location producing this beautiful sun-trenched watercolor, attached is another layout drawing by Paul.

With this key I'm trying to work out all issues. The problem is that you don't want to totally

burn out everything that's outside the window but show defined shapes and colors.

This is the final painting that addressed all the notes, but when going into production it was decided that we need color on the walls because white is a hard color to hold and keep looking white in color timing.

Here I am back in the late 70's painting in the bathroom of my parents farm house. I'm looking out the window and have my board and paints on the ironing board.

This is the painting.
-It was given to the Doctor that delivered our son back in 1980 in leu of his bill.

I also did a variation with more snow and after the tree was cut down for fire wood.
